As reported in the Blue Mountains Gazette, 6 June 2012, the Braemar Gallery at Springwood will be closed from January 2013 to mid 2014 while the Springwood Community and Cultural Centre undergoes renovation. According to the report, there are no plans to provide an alternate space for local artists for exhibitions during that 18 month period. If that isn’t bad enough, there appears to be doubt that the gallery will return to the venue once the renovations are complete . This situation is not good for artists living in the “City of the Arts”. If we are to continue to promote ourselves as an arts precinct, it is time we seriously started to actually support the arts by supporting the artists.
